About Us

Whānau wellbeing and aspirations are at the heart of everything we do

About 155 Whare Awhina

At 155 Whare Āwhina, we are proud of our whakapapa, with over 30 years of service to the community. We understand the courage it takes to ask for help, and we're here for you—whether you contact us by phone, email, or in person. We focus on a whānau-centered, tikanga-based approach, ensuring everyone who comes to us feels respected, supported, and empowered.

Our kaupapa drives us towards our vision of "A Just Society! Mauri tu, Mauri ora!" This vision guides us to create a fair, inclusive, and thriving community. We offer a range of services, including community law, housing, and support. Our services include transitional and social housing, a social supermarket, food rescue, a community café, legal support, and other wraparound services designed to meet the diverse needs of our whānau.

We are committed to honouring the mana of He Whakaputanga me Te Tiriti—our founding documents. These principles guide us in building a future based on respect, unity, and shared purpose. We are dedicated to building strong communities by creating safe spaces where whānau can connect, collaborate, and thrive. By fostering these connections, we help build more resilient and empowered communities.

Whānau are at the heart of everything we do. Our decisions are guided by their needs and aspirations, ensuring they receive the support they need to reach their potential. We also advocate for whānau rights, working for change on both individual and systemic levels to ensure their basic human rights are upheld. We stand with whānau in the pursuit of justice and equality.

Our tikanga is woven into everything we do, guiding how we engage with whānau and the wider community. Our values are shaped by four key pou: Manaakitanga – honouring and respecting each individual, Whanaungatanga – building trust-based relationships, Kotahitanga – working together to find shared solutions, and Rangatiratanga – empowering whānau to achieve independence and self-determination.

At 155 Whare Āwhina, we are honoured to walk alongside you, working towards a brighter, more just future for all.

Nga mihi,
